This is not going to go over well. While majority of Hollywood are openly opposing the use of A.I. and generative images in their films, Disney are now the first big movie studio to sign a $1 billion deal with OpenAI to let their Sora program curate video content using Disney's library of characters. Disney are now going to let OpenAI generate videos using masked and creature characters from Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and other Disney licensed IPs. These curated videos will be available on the Disney+ platform.

The news comes as a bit of a shock, after many filmmakers, screenwriters and concept artists in Hollywood have been outspoken against the use of A.I. technology for this purpose. Many creators in Hollywood abhorrently detest the idea of letting computers generate art and videos in place of authentic Human works for obvious reasons. Many artists will soon be out of a job as the industry shifts towards this inferior and cheap alternative to Human creativity. Screenwriters and soon actors and eventually filmmakers themselves could very well be out of a job as well. As technology improves, the generative abilities of Artificial Intelligence could significantly outweigh and outpace the capacity at which Humans can produce movies.
Understandably studios have been having difficulty moderating the use of their IPs in AI videos – but joining forces was the last thing we anticipated. This move by Disney is sure to be met with opposition by the very people they employ to deliver their movies.
How do you feel about Disney's move? Are you in favor of the idea? Let us know in the comments!
