Deadpool 2 to begin filming early next year!

Deadpool finished its theatrical run having earned $778 million in box office earnings, which when considering the movie only had a production budget of $58 million makes Deadpool the most successful movie in terms of percentage profit and the second most successful in terms of total profit, an amazing feat considering that Deadpool had the lowest budget of the all of the comic book movies released thus far this year, and was released with an R-rating. The only other comic book movie to beat Deadpool in terms of total profit is Marvel Studio's tour-de-force Captain America: Civil War which has so far earned $1.1 billion in box office earnings.

With such amazing commercial and critical success, it comes as no surprise that studio 20th Century Fox is keen to produce a sequel, with producer Simon Kinberg confirming in an interview with Collider that the sequel is on track to begin production early in 2017...

"The guys, [Paul] Wernick and [Rhett] Reese, are working on the script, and we hope to have a script very soon. I can only tell you that it’s going extremely well and that’s about all I will tell you about it. We want it to be discovered the way that we used to watch movies a long time ago when you didn’t know everything about them before you went to go see them."

Kinberg also addressed the underwhelming box office performance of X-Men: Apocalypse, which has so far only earned $514.4 million in box office takings against a production budget of $178 million...

"The truth is 'Days of Future Past' is sort of an outlier for an X-Men movie. We'd never made more than $500 million before, and 'Days' was kind of like our 'Avengers,' where we brought this sort of mega-cast together. We hoped this movie would do the same as 'Days of Future Past,' but we had a feeling that maybe it would, maybe it wouldn’t. It’s a different kind of film than 'Days of Future Past.'"

Deadpool 2, directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds is scheduled for a 2017 release.
