While movies like 2017's Life and next years Underwater aim to satisfy general audiences by injecting horror movie tropes into science fiction scenarios it is movies like Interstellar and Gravity that help further the genre to higher levels of realism and cinematic awe. This year's science-fiction epic comes from writer and director James Gray and Hollywood leading man Brad Pitt, who stars as Major Roy McBride, an astronaut who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to unravel a mystery that threatens the Earth itself. Pitt is joined by fellow Hollywood A-listers such as Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and Liv Tyler, in a movie that director Gray said in an interview with Collider will be...
"...the most realistic depiction of space travel that's been put in a movie."
Ad Astra, also a Latin phrase that translates as "to the stars", will hit US theaters September 20th, with its world premiere taking place at the Venice Film Festival on August 29th.
