Prometheus (2012)

Written by Jon Spaihts & Damon Lindeloff

Directed by Sir Ridley Scott

Review by MJD

"Following clues to the origin of mankind, a team find a structure on a distant moon, but they soon find they are not alone"

Fans have been waiting for a continuation of the story told in 1979 and finally got the first of many movies to come.

Prometheus has it´s flaws but is still provoking, shocking and demanding. Trying to break new territories whilst holding onto the old ones. Based on the original script from Jon Spaihts, 20th Century Fox took over and with the help of Damon Lindeloff they were ready for production. Especially when Ridley Scott is involved, the entire story will be hand drawn for story boarding, up to the final product we see in front of the screen. Very intricate fine detailing is always present with this man.

Many believed this to be a direct Alien prequel and follow up but when they finally got to see, they noticed the differences. Some never found a way to enjoy it and have since then boycotted the series. I believe that to be a shame, since it has so many assets towards the general plot and tries to follow a different path. We even get a few answers and new questions, showing a new set of characters and one very old. Jon Spaihts and the makers of this franchise are inspired by great novels from famous writers such as HG Wells, Jules Verne, John Milton and many more. But not only fictional stories, even religious aspects, mythological tales and true history - science were used to bring authenticity and originality.

You could go into the many details about the production and value of this movie, that ties in many generations but it´s best to do research for yourself. It set the emotions in play for so many discussions and interpretations to come. Even giving inspiration to follow their example. Good storytelling compells one to question and be deeply involved. It is good to then leave certain themes open to keep the mystique and legacy going, where you use your own imagination.
