Godzilla (2014) first and foremost delivers the kaiju action expected by fans. The sheer scale of Godzilla and the MUTOs are well captured by Edwards. The look and detailed design of the monsters is first rate as is the monster fight scenes.
The story (warning: potential spoilers) has a strong theme of family and fatherhood. However, the plot itself is weakened by inconsistencies in pacing. A terrific and tense first half is followed by a plodding and slowed paced second half, which robs the tension of the movie. Thankfully, the movie is rescued by the final battle which should satisfied all kaiju fans and movie-goers alike.
