How cool can this be!

A New Jersey high school adapted Alien for its spring play:

"The entire production looks to be an amazing display of creativity, and it’s a huge step above your usual high school spring production."

I wonder if our VivisectedEngineer is behind it.

"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

That intro looks really good!

Hopefully they can put it on YouTube and monetize it! I would like to see this.

Thanks for the share!

If this goes viral, Disney cannot ignore it.

I still hope Fox saved some good news for Alien Day this year and plans for more in the future.

Those kids would be happy as well.

All things considered, that Xenomorph "man in a suit" looks pretty good in that link you posted.

More info about Alien: The Play can be found in New York Times.

"(The Fox film studio was acquired earlier this month by the Walt Disney Company. A press representative for Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)"

Thanks, dk.

I think what these kids did is one of the best marketing campaign for the franchise and, ironically, it's free for the benefit of the greedy suits from the film industry who now own the rights.

The big question is whether a recording exists and will be shown. Can't find much but 1:10 shows a bit of play footage that looks pretty good:

Ingeniero posted more info here.

I don,t think there is more recording than already surfaced, but hopefully they will play it again and someone will record it for the history.

Who knows, maybe they will inspire an Alien school play international festival.

Tired of waiting, every fan will bring his own Alien universe to life in a way or another.

Without a big announcement from Fox/Disney Alien still gets the attention it deserves on its 40th anniversary.

I was in a rush to post the story on the Alien play daliens and somehow missed your topic on the same thing.

Great post, I would have added to it instead of starting mine.

Thank you.

My fault, Ingeniero. I never manage to put the right title to my threads.

"The props & the costumes look great, wish we could view the whole play!

Fantastic to see such interest & enthusiasm from a younger generation for my favourite film!"

The costume design is amazing Lone, below.

Excellent facehugger attack!

You're too kind daliens

I was trying to steal the thunder from you and a group of very talented high school students and teachers.

Look away, I am hideous.

Not the first time a news item was posted by more than one member. What is important is that the word is out and I appreciate it since I would have had no idea unless I checked in here.

Thank you dk.

I might have been a little dramatic in order to call more attention to Alien: The Play.

It is nice to see that the franchise can make people interested enough so they make their own things. It is also interesting when you see people make things like that because it makes you in a way see what they possibly associate the franchise with. The picture that makes me the most interested is the one with the SJ but they failed to make it big enough. ;)

I have not seen this yet... but its nice to see they made a Good Effort and Especially from a Generation was not around 30-40 years ago...

There is a interest in the Franchise, there always will be...

And while we can applaud the Effort, i think when we are talking about any Real Prospect of Exploring a Disney/Fox funded Project then the Budget is a Problem, its a Risk to commit a Large $100M or more Budget, and yet you are limited with a $50M or less Budget as far as Certain Special Effects.

But it will be interesting to see what those Soon to be released ALIEN Short movies will be like and what kinds of Budgets they have, but have to bare in mind these would be what? 10 Minute Shorts?

So making anything thats going to be 3-4 hours be it Two Movies or Split into 4-6 Episodes would depend on Budget as far as Quality we end up with.

But i think its still interesting to see some Fan-Made, Low Budget attempts.  And Appreciate them for what they are and consider the Budget Restraints.

"Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott Share Praise for Students Who Recreated 'Alien' at School Play"

Quoted below from Comicbook.com:

"I saw a bit of your production of Alien, I just wanted to say, it looked incredible. You put so much heart and soul into that and the alien, I must say, looked very real, to me," Weaver shared on Twitter. "And I just wanted to send our compliments, not only from me,but from [Aliens director] James Cameron and the original screenwriter Walter Hill. We all say, 'Bravo, well done.' And, just one more thing, the alien might still be around, so when you're opening your locker, just do it very slowly."

Ridley Scott penned a letter posted by Deadline, that reads, "My hat comes off to all of you for your creativity, imagination, and determination to produce such an ambitious show. Limitations often produce the best results because imagination and determination can surpass any shortfalls and determine the way forward -- ALWAYS. Self-sufficiency is what this country was largely based upon with its immigrant population coming in to a New World and working TOGETHER."

The filmmaker went on to note that, not only was the experience creatively ambitious, but, with a budget far short of a Hollywood production, the play demonstrates that the future appears bright for all those who managed to pull it off.

"This is maybe the biggest lesson for ALL OF YOU, and your future plans -- stay with this determination, and this spirit in everything you do, and you will succeed -- let nothing put you off -- or set you back," the letter added. "Thanks for doing Alien, I felt very complimented. Scott Free will advance some financial help to fund an encore performance of Alien. How about your next TEAM production being Gladiator."

The film master's letter below, thanks to Deadline:

"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

Yes ,dk, especially this part:

"Scott Free will advance some financial help to fund an encore performance of Alien. How about your next TEAM production being Gladiator."

Ridley Scott is my hero.

I don't think the faculty or students will sleep tonight. That is just beautiful!

And the chances for all of us to see the play are real.

Bravo to Perfecto Cuervo, Steven Defendini and to all the the actors from Alien: The Play, whom you can see in Ingeniero's related thread here.

After seeing your last post, dk, I changed my mind.

Mrs. Weaver sure looks like she can handle a couple of xenomorphs.

So, not against Ripley in a future Alien film.

Well its nice to see it gaining recognition... the Alien 6 Short Fan Films would also be interesting, Disney can gauge how much interest there would be in a Franchise..

with movies Budget can make a difference though!  Mainly in Terms of  Space Scenes/Technology and Special Effects for any Aliens/Technology.

For example you can see the Inferior Xenomorph Quality between the AVP Movies.  The Predators look Good in both because they dont require as much effort due to the Appearance/Biology of the Humanoid Hunters.  And so Engineers would also not be that Expensive either.

TV Series would be better... again depend on Budget!

$8M Per Episode would get you Star Trek TV Series like Budget to play with, where as a $1M Per Episode would get you a Dr Who like Budget, and so i think something in the Middle could do some Justice to the Franchise.

I just have a feeling Disney would not want to invest more than $50M be that a Movie or a 8-12 Episode TV Show.

I think a 6 Episode TV show would be ideal to then Gauge if there would be enough Interest/Risk to continue with more or move onto a Movie.

BigDave "its nice to see it gaining recognition?"

It has received both props and endorsements from the very top- Sir Scott and Mrs. Weaver! You cannot get any better than that.

Indeed DK  her Video is HERE

Its interesting as she hinted the ALIEN has NOT gone away, is that a indication that something is HAPPENING behind the Scenes?

Only Time will TELL... but i suspect its more chance of seeing a Blomkamp Inspired ALIEN movie...  I am sure that Emma Watts was championing for the Prequels to be Finished though.... just as soon as they GOT the right Story!

BigDave It feels like something is brewing and this play may have forced someone's hand.

Siggy also looks and motions to her left when mentioning Cameron- as if he was sitting there.

Anybody with a better internet than me can please check if Ridley Scott's letter is not a HOAX?

I noticed the bird from Scott Free logo is different and the letter was first posted here.

Although it was spread with enthusiasm across the internet, like I did myself, I did not find it in any Ridley Scott official page.
