We may have had this conversation before, but it seems worth mentioning again.

I would pay the going rate opening night and watch at home. I simply hate the idea of having to drive somewhere, find parking, wait in a line, try to find a decent seat hoping I won't need a bathroom break, missing some dialogue because of an external distraction, driving home and knowing I missed something. Then there are the rude people...

Watching at home- I can pause or rewind if needed and watch at a time that suits me. I can eat or drink what I want. I would avoid all the theater BS mentioned above.

I think it could be a good thing to offer both options since I will wait for the home scenario. With the exception of The Predator, I know I will not set foot in a theater and just wait for the Blue Ray.

How about you- where would you rather plant your butt- home or theater?

Totally agree dk! The convenience and privacy of watching from home far out-weighs the hassle of actually going to the cinema.

However, If I want to make an event out of it, and buy into the  big-screen, big-sound, popcorn atmosphere that only cinema can bring...in an effort to build hype and excitement, Im all for going to the cinema.

Given that I go to the cinema so rarely, when I do its even more exciting. Last year the only film I saw in cinema was Covenant. This year I will (likely) only see The Predator.

Also, if it helps lift the archaic 'box office' statistic that the success of a film is weighed upon, I'm in.

There, you got my ass in a seat! Bravo

If I really like a franchise or if the movie just looks exceptional in the trailers, I'll go to the theater.  I don't want to be evening prices, so I'd likely go during the cheaper afternoon.

In 2017, I saw IT in theaters because I REALLY wanted something scary since Alien: Covenant didn't deliver.  Plus, I've never seen a straight horror film in a theater before, so I also wanted that experience.  I think IT was scarier in the theaters just because of the surround sound and, in a few scenes, because of the big screen.

I also saw Bladerunner 2049 in theaters because a family member wanted to see it in theaters.  I wanted to see the movie, so I just said, "Hey, I guess I'll just see it in theaters."  I'm glad I did because I fell in love with that movie.

I saw Alien: Covenant because, as it is obvious, I am a huge ALIEN fan, so I just had to see it on the big screen.

I also saw the final MazeRunner movie of the franchise in theaters.  I REALLY liked the MazeRunner franchise, but I stumbled upon it by accident.  So, I thought I would enjoy seeing the last chapter in theaters and pay tribute to a job well done.  Sadly, the last movie was the worst of the franchise.

I see going to the theaters as the way a movie should be seen.  If I really like something, I'll go to the theaters.  Still I consider myself kind of frugal, so I just don't pay the theater ticket for anything.  2017 was a unique year since I did see a lot of movies in the theater.  Normally I just don't go unless I really like something, like ALIEN.

I think the only movie I saw this year in theaters was the new Ocean's 8 because it was July 4th.  OH! And I also saw Solo because I like the Star Wars franchise.  Those will probably be the only two movies I see in the theater this year.

For me it depends on the Movie, and with my Cable TV Provider we dont really get movies released for Home at the same time as the Big Screen.  Sometimes it happens but usually its 3-6 Months after maybe more.

IF however i consider the option that a Service is Available to me where i can watch a Movie at Home that has been out for up to a Month at the Big Screen (Cinema) then it depends HOW many people would want to see the Movie too and HOW much i am looking forwards to the Movie.

If its a Movie i am really wanting to see and a movie that would Benefit from the Large Screen and Sound then i would go to the Cinema, (i however rely on Public Transport, but when someone comes with me who drives then Parking is not a Problem near me)..

If the movie is something i kind of want to see but its not a MUST see, and 1-2 others want to see it too, then given the Option for Home Rental i would be tempted at that or just wait until it becomes Free to View on my Cable Package (SKY Movies Add On).

Problems i have with Cinema... sometimes it is getting a decent Seat, but the TWO Cinemas i use, the seats are Pre-booked so your allocated a Seat that you choose when booking so you have none of that going into the Screen and having to find a Seat thats Decent, and enough for your Party to Sit Together.

The BIGGEST problem for me is the Toilet Situation, when i plan to watch a Movie at the Cinema i have to Force myself to Cut out on Drinking as i do LOT of drinking throughout the 24 hour Period (not always BEER) lol

At home having the ability to PAUSE for a quick Toilet Break is Handy as i often at Home can go to the Toilet 1-3 times during a Movie lol  But then at home i sit and watch a Movie with a Few Drinks ;)

Well, I don't think block buster will be streamable day 1 anytime soon as they would be available from pirate sources so drastically removing income, especially within countries with weak copyright law enforcement.

I live in small, and for me would be good to see small movies on streaming as they will be likely not shown at our cinema with 70 seats.

Seen at the cinema in 2018: The Disaster Artist, Deadpool 2, Mission Impossible 6, Christopher Robin, Foxtrot (we were two in the whole thing).

It depends on the movie but I'm someone who would usually rather go to the theater.

Fair point. My fantasy would be that the pay per views would count for those numbers. That said, I wonder what might happen if I preordered a couple tickets to support the box office with no intention of attending. I wonder if movie goers would accept or be suspicious of a random act of kindness if I wandered up to a long line- "I have two tickets for free! Who wants them?" Then just leave.

Secured tickets for my daughter and s/o. Read 'em and weep! I give you Fistfull of Predator!

Films are shot, cut, printed and overall purposed to be seen in a large cinema with a big screen, high tech surround sound and attention to detail. Watching a film at home simply does not give audiences the same experience. Nothing will top seeing a film in a massive theater the way it was intended. And it's become much easier in this age with the ability to reserve seats via online ticket sales.

Watching a film for the first time at home, specifically ones you anticipate, is a faux first impression. Also if I'm too lazy to get off my ass to do something as "physically draining" as see a movie in theaters I should be strung up, skinned alive, nailed to a bed of spikes, disemboweled and yanked apart by hooks. Heaven forbid anyone hit a gym.

G. H. (Gman) Here is how I see it. I will decide how I enjoy a movie. I was brought up on tech from the 1960s and content trumped all. I support Predator and am treating my daughter and s/o to a free movie. This will support the box office. I will preorder the movie giving even more support. The thing is I hate anyone messing with my movie watching experience. I am supporting the movie knowing I will wait to see it because I think it will be worth it.

Yep- I am lazy and selfish with my revered movie franchises but support them financially. Guilty as charged.

Then my only response is I feel sorry for your loss of being unable to watch films the way they were meant to be seen. Parking? We have to find that anywhere we go. Lines and finding a seat? Reserve them online. Rude people? There are fewer than you think. Remember you're not the only one who is there to watch and pay attention to the movie. These complaints all sound too trivial to take seriously. It's more like a bad sitcom scenario.

No need to feel sorry. I like it this way. Being out in public is like this:

For me it depends on the movie. If I know I want to see it I’ll go to a theater, but if it’s something that looks okay or if I don’t know if I’d like it I’ll just rent it.

That describes my movie watching habit perfectly Sci-Fi King25.

Sure, I like to make it to the theater but can't find the time with some films. I am a proud hermit (it is so hidden here) and can certainly relate to dk's described feelings on going out in public above.

My last trips to the theater:

Summer 2018 - The Big Lebowski, 20th anniversary rerelease

Summer 2017 - Alien: Covenant (3 times)

Fall 2016 - Arrival

I missed Blade Runner 2049 at the theater but did not want to. I have watched the film at home about 5 times (Blue-Ray, HBO).

Last trip to the theater I made was to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom because I'm a pathetic JP fan. Most of the time I just pirate movies lol.
