Dr. Haruo Honda stared in awe at the creature before him. He took off his sunglasses as he walked closer to it. The creature was a giant turtle that had washed up on the shore earlier in the morning. Dr. Honda presumed it was dead, as he noticed the gaping wound torn into its blue neck shortly after noticing the creature itself. Blood leaked from the wounds, turning the sand and water red. He froze as the creature slowly opened its eyes and grunted. As it slowly lifted its massive head, the scientists on its shell hastily climbed down the ladder they had leaned against its side.

The soldiers on the beach aimed their guns at the giant turtle. It slowly attempted to stand up before collapsing again. It closed its eyes and slowly stopped breathing. The creature became completely still again. He turned away from the dead turtle as he noticed a familiar scientist approach him.

                “What is it?” He asked.

“We’re not sure. Nobody here has ever seen anything like it.” Dr. Victoria Smith answered.

“What do we know about it?” He asked.

“It washed up at around six this morning. We estimate it’s about twenty meters in length. There’s no trace of radiation except for a miniscule amount on the neck.” She answered as Dr. Honda stepped closer to the creature’s body, focusing on the open wound in its neck.

“Does it have a name yet?” He asked.

“Not yet. The scientists here call it a Megalomatamata. A couple named it Kamoebas.” She answered.

                “Kamoebas?” He repeated.

“Yes.” She replied, “However, there’s still one mystery left.”

“What is it?” Dr. Honda asked.

“What kind of animal can kill a twenty meter turtle?” She asked.

“There’s only one creature in the sea capable of doing that…” He answered.

STURGEON

(Want to listen to something while you read? Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwoPGAq2UZU)

North Pacific Ocean; Northeast of Yokohama

John Edwards leaned against the cargo ship’s railing, staring at the dark waters of the Pacific Ocean illuminated by a full moon. There was nothing out of the ordinary. After a couple minutes he heard a something blowing to his right. He turned on his flashlight and pointed it in the direction of the noise. He caught a glimpse of a whale’s tail descending into the ocean. From what he saw, Edwards guessed it was a sperm whale.

Edwards quickly realized the whale's breathing made the noise he heard. Seconds later, he stumbled as he felt something ram into the ship. Once he regained his balance, he aimed his flashlight in every direction, looking for the whale. He assumed it was quite large, but the ship was almost 200 meters long. Edwards turned around as he heard footsteps behind him.

“Did you feel that?” Seaman Michael Malone asked. Edwards noticed a worried expression on his face.

“Yeah. I just saw a sperm whale too. Could it be ramming the ship with its head?” Edwards said.

“No.” Malone replied, “Not even the biggest whales could damage the Sturgeon.” Suddenly, something hit the ship again.

“There it is again!” Edwards shouted. Before Malone could reply, the two heard the sounds of the crates being moved and something splashing on the end of the ship. They ran towards it, but stopped about sixty meters away from the source of the noise. The men stared in awe as a long, thick, green body slid across the deck, pushing the shipping crates around. Some of them fell into the ocean.

                “What is that?” Malone asked.

“Looks like a giant snake.” Edwards replied.

“What should we do?” Malone asked. Before Edwards could answer, Captain Samuel Jones ran towards them, followed by some of the other crew members.

“Get the lifeboats ready!” Jones shouted. The crew members ran towards the lifeboats and began to lower them. Jones heard a faint grunt and turned around. He screamed as he saw a massive, green, snakelike head with yellow horns stare down at them. Its body had already touched another part of the ship. Jones understood what the monster was doing. It was coiling around the Sturgeon like a giant python.

Captain Jones grabbed his flare gun and aimed it at the monster’s eyes. He pulled the trigger and watched as the ball of flame made contact with its target. The ship’s deck was brightened for a brief moment as the blast exploded. The monster let out a bellow like that of a tiger’s as it flailed its head around. It looked around the deck and let out a fierce snarl once it located the men.

John Edwards, Michael Malone and two other crewmen stepped into a lifeboat. They watched in horror as the sea serpent lunged forward. Captain Jones, an older man, ran as fast as he could towards the lifeboat. However, the monster’s open jaws slammed through the deck. Once it raised its head, Captain Jones was nowhere to be found. The monster spit out the parts of the ship caught in its jaws and slid across the deck.

As the lifeboat was lowered, the sea serpent traveled down the ship with them. The men, frozen with fear, stared at the serpent. However, it didn’t seem to notice them. Soon, the monster’s head disappeared beneath the water’s surface. The men continued to watch as its body continued to slide down the ship. Once the lifeboat touched the surface of the ocean, the men rowed as fast as they could away from the Sturgeon.

“How many lifeboats made it out so far?” A crewman asked.

“Let’s see…” John Edwards answered, moving his flashlight around, “Us and two others.”

“Is anyone left on the ship?” Michael Malone asked.

                “Not sure.” Edwards answered.

For the next five minutes, the men rowed the lifeboats away from the Sturgeon. Suddenly, a booming sound got their attention. They watched as their ship was consumed by multiple explosions, briefly revealing the sea serpent’s coils around the ship. The sea serpent escaped into the depths of the ocean as what remained of the Sturgeon sunk into the Pacific Ocean, leaving the lifeboats consumed by darkness, faintly brightened by a full moon.

Edwards opened his eyes as he heard the chopping of helicopter propellers. He winced as a bright light appeared above him. He looked around and noticed a helicopter at each boat. Suddenly, a rope ladder fell from the helicopter. He slowly stood up and grabbed the first rung. He began to climb up, followed closely by Malone. Soon, all four men were in the helicopter.

As the helicopters began to fly away, Edwards stared out the window. He noticed three bright lights moving across the ocean. He soon noticed a snakelike figure swimming just below the surface. A fourth light appeared above the monster as the other three shut off. Edwards closed his eyes as the helicopters turned around and flew off.

CONFERENCE ROOM

(Want to listen to something while you read? Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfToHySUTjw)

Tokyo, Japan; Minato Ward

John Edwards and Michael Malone stepped into the conference room. The only person in it was an older Japanese man. Edwards guessed he was in his late fifties or early sixties. The man greeted them as they sat down. The lights dimmed as a projector was turned on.

“You probably have many questions about what happened last night.” Dr. Honda said.

“Yeah, it’s not every day a sea monster destroys your ship.” Edwards replied.

“We have a presentation prepared that will hopefully answer some of your questions.” Dr. Honda said as the lights dimmed. A video began to play from the slideshow. It started with black and white footage of nuclear bomb tests in the Pacific Ocean.

“Nuclear power;” A deep voice said, “It brought mankind into a new era- the Atomic Age.” Suddenly, the footage in the video showed pictures and videos of monstrous beings: the sea serpent that destroyed the Sturgeon, a giant lizard with spikes running down its back, a large egg, and finally a massive creature with three rows of jagged fins running down its back. “However,” the voice continued to narrate, “such energy awakened, irradiated, and mutated monsters on land, sea, and the sky.” Suddenly, the video switched to footage of laboratories, meetings, and military vehicles.

“In the year 1954, the Monster Attack Prevention League, or MAPL, was formed.” The voice said, “For sixty-three years we have worked closely with the United Nations to defend ourselves from all kinds of gargantuan beasts. However, we also have teams dedicated to the research of these creatures to understand how they live, what they can do, and ultimately, find effective means of defense against them. Even though a monster has never attacked one of our cities, we continue to prepare in case one does.” The video ended with a picture of the MAPL logo: the head of some monster surrounded by a silver circle.

“What did you think?” Dr. Honda asked.

“So basically, your organization rescued us because one of those things destroyed our ship?” Malone replied.

“Yes. We are called whenever a monster is spotted. If it is an attack, then we look for survivors. However, this brings me to my next point- you are not allowed to tell anyone about what destroyed your ship.

                “Why?!” Malone asked, visibly angered.

“If the existence of these monsters is proven, the chaos would be unimaginable.” Dr. Honda answered.

“Then what’re we going to tell anyone who asks?” John Edwards asked.

“That is already taken care of.” Dr. Honda answered, “I believe we said there was something wrong with the engines or something like that.”

“You don’t even remember what you told our families and the company?!” Malone shouted.

“I am not part of the Manda team.” Dr. Honda replied.

“Then what do you do here?” Edwards asked.

“I am afraid I cannot tell you,” Dr. Honda answered, “but he is much more dangerous than Manda.”

“Then can you put us through to the head of the Manda team?” Edwards asked.

“No. He is following the monster as we speak.” Dr. Honda answered. Suddenly, the door burst open. A woman with a pale face and blonde hair stepped in. Dr. Honda recognized her as Dr. Victoria Smith. She walked to Dr. Honda and whispered something to him. Dr. Honda gasped as he listened.

                “What is it?” Edwards asked.

“Gojira…” Dr. Honda said. He followed Dr. Smith out of the room and to a window where they could clearly see Tokyo Bay. They soon spotted the gray back and rows of white, jagged dorsal spines. Godzilla, King of the Monsters, had arrived.

GODZILLA

(Want to listen to something while you read? Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDdqLqITSFk)

Dr. Honda, John Edwards, Michael Malone and Dr. Smith watched with dread from the fourth story of the building as the monster known as Godzilla approached the land. It slowly stood as its feet touched the bottom of the bay. It turned its head, looking around the city with its large, yellow eyes. It sniffed and let out a soft grunt. It slowly raised a massive foot out of the water and placed it on dry land. It did the same with the other. Upon leaving the water, Godzilla began a slow trek inland, each step releasing an ominous boom.

The four watched as Godzilla smashed through the Rainbow Bridge with ease. He continued his march, stepping into a shipping area. He turned his head again, staring at the Minato Ward. After a few long, tense seconds, the monster turned to the left. He stepped through another part of the bridge, the final barrier between him and the city.

“What do we do now?” Edwards asked as he watched the monster approach them.

“Be patient.” Dr. Honda answered, “We have military protocols already established in case of an event like this. It is only a matter of time.”

“What do we do until then?” Malone asked.

“Unfortunately, we must wait.” Dr. Honda said as sirens began to blare.

“We probably have enough time to get to the elevators.” Dr. Smith said. She led the group back inside and to the elevators. She pressed a button, holding her breath as she listened to the booming of Godzilla’s footsteps grew louder. The elevator beeped as the doors opened. As the four entered, Dr. Smith quickly pressed the lowest button on the pad. The doors shut and the elevator began to descend.

A minute later the four entered something that looked like a surveillance room. Two other people were already there. John Edwards glanced on the wall and noticed Godzilla on a screen.

“What is this place?” He asked.

“It’s our shelter.” Dr. Smith answered, “In case a monster makes landfall, we can contact government and military forces, and, most importantly, stay safe.”

“Well what about all the people out in the city?” Malone asked.

“There are plenty of underground shelters and escape routes. We have been preparing for this situation for years.” Dr. Honda answered. Malone nodded. The group remained silent, watching the screens as Godzilla lumbered inland, demolishing anything in his way.

“So you seem to be quite the expert on this thing.” Malone said.

“Gojira wasn’t always like this.” Dr. Honda replied, “On the island I was born on, the people revered him. This was before the nuclear tests, when he was nothing more than a giant lizard that walked on his back legs. The nuclear energy wiped out whatever other animals were in his species, but gave him power. He grew very large, spines burst out of his back, and he learned how to fire some kind of ray from his mouth.”

                “What?” Edwards asked.

“We call it the Atomic Breath.” Dr. Smith said, “Luckily, he only seems to use it if he’s mad.”

“If he wasn’t mad, then why is he destroying a city?” Edwards asked.

“To feed; he gains energy by consuming nuclear energy. He is probably heading to a power plant.” Dr. Honda answered. Suddenly, five other people entered the room. They hopelessly watched the screens as Godzilla destroyed the buildings in his way, slowly moving inland. Although the video feed had no sound, the people in the room could hear the monster’s footsteps and the occasional crash of a building being damaged.

Godzilla soon noticed a building close to his height. He stopped his trek and turned his head to the left, then to the right. He slowly sidestepped, moving around the building. He continued walking, oblivious to the chaos he was causing underneath him. People used cars, bicycles, or their feet to attempt to escape his destructive path. However, escape was difficult, as his path was in a diagonal direction.

Soon, Godzilla stopped moving. Something in the distance caught his attention- a tall, red and white tower. As it was over three times his height, Godzilla saw it as a threat. He changed his course, heading towards the tower. As Godzilla slowly lumbered through the city on his new path, a group of eight AH-64 Apache helicopters flew in to attack. They arranged themselves in a V formation and quickly opened fire, focusing on his upper body. They bombarded Godzilla with chain guns and multiple types of missiles. However, Godzilla simply kept moving as the bullets bounced off his skin and the missiles exploded on him. He did not feel any of the JSDF’s weapons as they were used against him.

Twenty minutes later, two more Apache helicopters and a squadron of five Mitsubishi F-2 fighter jets arrived. The attack was futile, as Godzilla did not seem to notice the JSDF firing at him. Suddenly, Godzilla let out a grunt and raised his arm to his closed left eye. Two missiles had succeeded hitting his eye. For the first time, Godzilla acknowledged the JSDF’s attacks. The rest of the aircraft began to fire at his head. Occasionally, a few bullets or a missile would succeed in hitting his mouth, ears, eyes, or nostrils. Suddenly, Godzilla’s back began to glow a bright blue.

The King of the Monsters took in a deep breath. Seconds later he opened his mouth. A bright blue ray shot out of his mouth, destroying two of the helicopters almost instantly. He turned his head to the left and right, obliterating the helicopter squadron. He lowered his head, destroying the buildings around him and setting the city ablaze.

“The Atomic Breath…” Dr. Honda whispered.

                “Now what?” Michael Malone asked.

“I… I do not know…” Dr. Honda said. The room remained silent again as the people watched Godzilla scorch the buildings around him. The ray disappeared and Godzilla’s dorsal spines stopped glowing. He looked around at the burning buildings in front of him. Not seeing any more aircraft, he let out a victorious roar and continued his trek, moving around the burning buildings.

A few minutes later, Godzilla felt something explode on his back. He grunted in surprise and turned around. Suddenly, something hit his eyes and ears again. He let out a yelp and closed his eyes. However, instead of firing his Atomic Breath again, he continued walking.

“What do they think more jets and helicopters are going to do?” John Edwards asked.

“If Wave One fails, Wave Two will attempt to lead it back to the ocean.” Dr. Smith answered.

“And if that fails?” Edwards asked. Dr. Smith did not answer. Edwards turned to the screen again and watched the jets and helicopters attempt to get Godzilla’s attention. None of their guns or weapons worked. Eventually, Godzilla reached Shiba Park. There, a group of six Type 99 Self-Propelled Howitzers and six Type 10 tanks opened fire on his legs as the helicopters fired at his upper body. However, Godzilla did not notice them, even as he was bombarded by countless explosions. He stared at the Tokyo Tower for half a minute and noticed it was not moving. Deciding it wasn’t a threat, he grunted and turned around. He looked around the devastated Minato Ward as the JSDF kept firing. He ignored them and began walking back to Tokyo Bay.

Eventually, the King of the Monsters reached the edge of the city. He stepped into the waters of Tokyo Bay and glanced at the city. He swam off, eventually disappearing as quickly as he had appeared.

M.A.P.L.

(Want something to listen to while you read? Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgYHOSL_hy4)

It was a bright, sunny afternoon in Tokyo. However, the sunlight was blotted out by the thick, black smoke rising from the Minato Ward after Godzilla’s appearance. In about an hour, he managed to cause millions of dollars in damage and a couple thousand deaths. An hour later, the city was still burning.

“Are you sure you do not want to leave with your partner?” Dr. Haruo Honda asked.

“Michael will be fine without me. I want in on this organization.” John Edwards answered.

“I am not sure if we can let you in. Although the public knows about Gojira, there are many more kaiju they do not know of.” Dr. Honda replied.

                “Like what?” Edwards asked.

“Have you heard rumors of giant ants in the American Southwest during the 1950s, or a giant lobster in the Indo-Pacific?” Dr. Honda replied.

                “No.” Dr. Honda answered.

“Then we have done our job.” Dr. Honda answered as a faint smile formed on his lips.

San Diego, California

Steve Jones stared up at the night sky with his friends. They watched as meteors darted across the sky. All but one of them were small and white. Minutes later, a red meteor larger than the others approached them. It crashed into the mountains behind them.

“What was that?” Steve’s brother, Sam, asked.

“I don’t know.” Steve answered, “We should check it out.” The two, joined by the three others with them, drove into the mountains in their minivan. Minutes later, they noticed a faint red glow near the base of San Miguel Mountain. Steve parked the car and led the group towards the meteor. Sam pulled out his phone. Seconds later, it slipped out of his hands and flew towards the meteor, sticking to it.

“I think we should tell someone about this…” Steve said, “This isn’t normal.”

“Well, that’s all the questions in the interview. I’ll send your answers to the people in charge, but for now I can set you up with the monthly trip to the site at Ontake Lake.” Dr. Victoria Smith said.

“When do we leave? Edwards asked.

“Tomorrow at eight AM.” Dr. Smith answered.

ONTAKE

Mount Ontake, Japan

John Edwards gazed at the forest-covered mountains under him. The AW109 helicopter he was sitting in passed over the mountainous regions of central Japan, eventually reaching the city of Komagane.

“We’re almost there.” David Pine, the man sitting next to Edwards, said. Edwards smiled, both excited and nervous to see what the organization kept in the facility. A few minutes later, Edwards noticed a lake below him. Near the lake was a silver building with a helipad on top built on top of a mound. Suddenly, Edwards’ attention was drawn to something thrashing in the water.

“What’s that in the water?” He asked.

“Most people who see him call him the Ontake Lake Monster. However, we gave him the name the local villages call him- Varan.” Pine answered.

                "It's unbelievable." Edwards said.

"Yeah, he's pretty cool." Pine replied.

“Other people saw it?” Edwards asked.

“He’s like the Loch Ness Monster. Do you think anyone believes their stories?” Pine replied.

“Isn’t M.A.P.L. all about making sure nobody finds out about these things?” Edwards asked.

“He’s smaller than the other monsters. The JSDF could probably take him out if they needed to.” Pine said, “We check on him every time we come here as well. Want to go take a look?”

“Sure.” Edwards replied. He kept his eyes on the lake as the helicopter began to land. As the helicopter touched the landing pad, the doors were opened and the people inside were led into the facility. They stepped into an elevator, which took them to what appeared to be an office. Edwards looked around, glancing at the wall of screens, a few posters, and some desks that filled the room. “What’s in the cavern?” Edwards asked, looking at two of the screens.

“We call him Rodan.” Pine answered, “Monitoring him is the reason this facility exists. We forced him in here when he was smaller. He’s been in hibernation ever since.” Edwards noticed a woman approach them. Pine greeted her in Japanese. They had a quick conversation, one Edwards could not understand. A minute later, she left.

“What was that about?” Edwards asked.

“It’s time for the reason we’re here.” Pine replied. He led Edwards, two scientists, and two armed men back into the elevator.

“Are we going to see the rest of the facility?” Edwards asked.

“I’m afraid not.” Pine answered, “It’s classified.” A few seconds later, the elevator dinged and the doors opened. The group walked through a small lounge, grabbing backpacks and walking sticks.

“It’s a bit of a hike to get to where we’re going.” Pine said, putting on a pair of hiking boots. They walked out the doors and stepped into the forest. For the next few minutes, the group walked down the mountain towards Ontake Lake without saying a word. They listened to the leaves crunch under their boots and the occasional bird call. Eventually, they reached the lake. David Pine grabbed the pair of binoculars hanging from his neck. He scanned the lake, eventually noticing a row of spikes break through the surface. Edwards turned his head as he heard a motor. He noticed a red pickup truck approaching them. A man stepped out and greeted Pine. He responded and walked to the back of the truck, followed by two of the men on the excursion. They each grabbed a small container of meat.

“What’s that for?” John Edwards asked.

“We throw it into the water to draw Varan closer to the shore. It’s really the sound that gets his attention but if we feed him, then he won’t try to eat us.” Pine answered as the other men began throwing chunks of beef and pork into the lake. Slowly, the line of spikes approached the meat. Its brown head rose from the water as it opened its mouth to take in the meat. The monster swallowed its meal and turned its head. Suddenly, it sank back into the water.

(Want something fitting for the next part? Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv0yGnI5hyI&list=PLWyzvhN8cnjQ0Zw4tFmyRpo_ZlOVU8z-X&index=11)

“He’s probably full.” Pine said. Suddenly, Varan’s back rose from the surface again, this time closer to the shore. It was coming closer. The guards fired a few rounds from their SMGs, but the monster did not feel the bullets as they bounced off of his thick hide.

“Run!” One of the men said as the monster approached them. The group ran from the shore and hid in the trees. They watched as Varan stepped out of the lake and sniffed the air. He snarled and lowered his head. He grabbed the truck in his jaws, almost immediately crushing it. He turned his head and slowly crawled towards the group of trees.

“There’s a cave over there!” Edwards shouted, pointing to a cave. The men immediately ran to it. Varan followed them. Seconds after all the men entered the cave, Varan stuck an arm in. He growled in frustration as he swept at the air. He pulled his arm out and leaned forward. The men watched with terror as a large, yellow eye peered inside. After a long, terrifying twenty seconds, the monster grunted and turned away. The men sighed in relief as they watched Varan lumber back into the lake. Suddenly, a clicking sound got their attention.

“Do you hear that?” One of the men asked. Before anyone could answer, a giant insect appeared in front of them. It appeared to be about three feet tall and six feet long. It stared at them with large, green eyes and flicked its antennae. Suddenly, the sound of a gun being fired filled the air. The insect screeched in pain as a bullet landed between its eyes. The guard who shot it fired his pistol two more times and watched the fleeing insect drop to the ground. However, the clicking sound grew louder.

None of the men dared to make a noise. All of them realized that there were more insects in the cave with them. They looked around, trying to see the insects in the darkness of the cave. Occasionally, an insect would dart across the part of the cave illuminated by sunlight. The guards would fire their pistols at them, but to no avail. Eventually, the clicking stopped. The men let out sighs of relief.

Suddenly, a buzzing sound filled the air. Eight insects rushed out of the darkness and charged the unsuspecting men. The guards switched to their SMGs and fired at them. However, as soon as one insect was killed, another would take its place. Slowly, more and more entered the battle. The men looked towards the cave entrance and noticed the giant insects guarding it. One guard shot them down. However, one leaped on his back. Another attacked his legs. He screamed as the insects bit and jabbed at him. The other guard shot at them. As the attacked guard stood up, he was knocked back down by a tremor. The insects stopped moving. Seconds later, another tremor shook the cave. The insects retreated through the holes they entered the cave in. David Pine ran outside, followed by the rest of the men.

“What is it?” John Edwards asked. Before he could get a response, his attention was drawn to a chunk in the side of Mount Ontake crumble. As the dust cleared, he noticed what appeared to be the head of a giant pterosaur. It let out a deafening screech as it stepped out of the mountain.

                “Rodan…” Pine whispered.

THE SKIRMISH

(Want to listen to something while you read? Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voL1DfnBi08)

“Where are we going?” Dr. Victoria Smith asked as she stepped into the helicopter.

“The Ontake facility.” Dr. Haruo Honda answered, “Rodan escaped. But first, we must visit an area just outside of Tokyo Bay, near Mount Daisen. Gojira was spotted by a group of fishermen.” The AW109 helicopter slowly ascended and moved away from the city. The two gazed at the buildings below them. Tokyo was slowly recovering from Godzilla’s landfall. The fires had been put out and many people were rescued from the damaged and destroyed buildings. Eventually, the helicopter moved away from the buildings, passing over the waters of Tokyo Bay.

The group heard the monstrous screams before they saw anything. They looked out the windows and watched as a massive, quadrupedal monster with a spiked carapace lunged at Godzilla. Its jaws slammed shut around his left arm. Godzilla grunted and slashed his opponent’s neck with his free arm. However, the monster refused to move. It thrashed its head around, cutting Godzilla’s thick, gray skin. Godzilla jabbed the monster’s eye. It winced at let go, letting out a shriek of pain. Godzilla kicked it back as his dorsal spines began to emit a bright blue glow.

The monster screamed as Godzilla’s Atomic Breath hit its limbs and tail. Its spiked carapace offered little protection against the beam’s power. Godzilla stopped firing as his opponent burrowed into the ground. Godzilla scanned the landscape, searching for the monster.

A minute later, the monster sprung out of the ground and grabbed Godzilla’s tail with its jaws. It thrashed its head around as Godzilla attempted to free his tail. The second the monster let go, Godzilla whipped it with his tail, causing it to fall to the ground. Godzilla turned around and approached the monster. It stood up on its hind legs and screeched. Godzilla roared back as the monster stepped forward.

Suddenly, it charged. However, Godzilla was prepared. As it approached him, Godzilla grabbed its neck with his hand and shoved it to the ground. The monster quickly returned to its bipedal gait and swung at Godzilla with its claws. Godzilla grunted as the monster hit him, but the attacks did little damage. Godzilla swung back, slashing the monster’s unprotected underside. It snapped at him, but Godzilla quickly pulled his arm back. The monster swung at Godzilla again as he stepped back. He turned around, hitting the monster’s legs with his tail. It fell to the ground and attempted to stand back up as Godzilla approached it. He bent over and grabbed its jaws. The monster screeched in pain as Godzilla pried them open. Blood trickled down the monster’s jaws as Godzilla broke them. He dropped the monster and let out a victorious roar as it sulked back underground.

“What was that thing?” Dr. Smith asked.

“I do not know. I do not believe anything like it has been spotted before.” Dr. Honda answered as the helicopter turned around and moved in a different direction.

                “What about Godzilla?”

“He will probably leave. If he wanted to attack a city, he would not be in this area.”

Eventually, the helicopter reached the Ontake Facility. They were greeted by a Japanese-American man Dr. Honda immediately recognized as David Pine. He noticed seaman John Edwards was with him as well. The group took the elevator to the surveillance room. Dr. Honda glanced at the screens. He noticed static on two of the screens. A third showed an empty cavern and a hole in the mountain.

“What’re we going to do about the giant pterodactyl?” Edwards asked.

“We have a protocol for Rodan as well.” Dr. Honda said, “If the Self Defense Forces cannot defeat him, they will lead him towards the Pacific.”

“I’d advise you to not be flying in this area.” Pine said, “By the time you notice Rodan, it’s too late.”

“So I guess we’re stuck here until Rodan is taken care of.” Dr. Smith said.

“How long will that be?” Edwards asked.

“It should not be long.” Dr. Honda answered, “Only the most skilled pilots were chosen for this task.”

RODAN

The four Mitsubishi F-2s flew over the forested mountains of central Japan. Their mission had begun minutes prior. They were to locate Rodan and kill him. If they could not, they were to lead him away from the mainland. The pilots searched the area for the giant pterosaur, which proved to be a challenge. Suddenly, a large shadow passed over them. Seconds later, it was gone.

Soon, a massive figure appeared in front of the jets. They immediately realized it was Rodan and opened fire at it. The giant pterosaur let out a deafening screech as he was bombarded with bullets and missiles and descended. The jets followed him down. Rodan quickly turned to the left. Before the pilots could react, Rodan turned around and flew into them, hitting two of them with his spiked chest, immediately destroying them. The other two jets flew away from the monster and opened fire again. Rodan ascended as missiles hit his wings. He turned around and flew towards the jets, rapidly gaining speed. He rammed into them, destroying them instantly. As Rodan slowed down, he felt more jets shooting at him.

A squadron of six Mitsubishi F-2s fired their missiles at the giant pterosaur. Despite the failure of the first squadron, they were determined to try again. As Rodan turned around, the jets fired again and quickly descended to avoid being destroyed by the giant pterosaur’s sheer speed. As he passed above them, the jets turned around and ascended. Four of them flew ahead of him while the other two occasionally fired from behind.

Rodan gained speed, ramming into two of the jets. The other two narrowly avoided the attack, but kept flying at a faster speed. Eventually, they noticed the ocean. They flew as fast as they could in an attempt to escape the giant pterosaur. The two jets behind him fired and dove beneath him. They quickly joined the other two as Rodan slightly sped up. The four jets quickly broke formation as they reached the ocean. Rodan continued his flight. However, he was slowing noticeably. The mission was a success.

“Meganulon.” Dr. Victoria Smith said, “The hive was first encountered in 1956 when this facility was being constructed. They were occasionally spotted throughout the construction of the facility, but stopped showing up once we reached Rodan’s nest. I think they’re afraid of him.”

“Well where did they come from?” John Edwards asked.

“We’re not entirely sure, but our experts think they were originally a colony of some undiscovered insect mutated by radiation.” Dr. Smith answered.

“We did it!” David Pine shouted, “Rodan is flying over the ocean as we speak!”

“So can we get out of here?” Edwards asked.

                “Yeah.” Pine answered.

“Do you think he’ll come back to his nest?” Dr. Smith asked.

“I do not believe so.” Dr. Honda said, “He will probably make a new one on some island in the Pacific.”

“Are the flights over the ocean going to be cancelled?” Edwards asked.

“Rodan’s actually pretty peaceful. He’ll only fight if you hit first.” Pine answered.

“So where will he go from here?”

“Not sure. We’ll have some jets follow him though.”

KING OF TERROR

San Diego, California

A group of scientists gathered around the red meteor. Around it was a pile of electronic devices. A couple days after it landed, the meteor had possessed some sort of magnetic property, which had since disappeared. However, something was different about it. Even under the early morning sun, they could tell the rock was glowing. Suddenly, the electronic devices were pulled onto the rock once more, along with the scientists’ new tools. One of the scientists stepped back, glancing at her Geiger counter. She noticed the needle was nearly touching the right edge of the screen, indicating very high levels of radioactivity.

Sparks began to fly out of the meteor as it cracked. The sparks and cracks grew more intense until a pillar of flame shot into the sky as the rock split in two. The scientists watched in awe as something materialized from the pillar. It had the appearance of a dragon- three heads, two tails, and wings covered in bronze scales. It was Ghidorah, the King of Terror.

Ghidorah immediately shot yellow bolts of lightning from his three mouths, destroying the scientists’ camp and vehicles instantly. He turned his necks in different directions, setting the surrounding landscape ablaze. At an altitude of a few hundred feet, the dragon could clearly see buildings miles ahead of him. He flapped his wings, beginning to move as he rained his Gravity Beams down on the buildings below him, instantly decimating entire neighborhoods. He continued his assault until he reached the Pacific Ocean. The dragon turned, heading south into northern Mexico. After firing his Gravity Beams again, he turned around, flying towards the larger buildings of San Diego.

A squadron of five F/A-18 Hornets flew towards the dragon. They fired their missiles before breaking formation and flying around it. The dragon didn’t even flinch as the missiles hit its skin. However, a direct hit to its left head caused him to snarl. The fighter jets turned around and fired again, aiming for Ghidorah’s legs and wings. They broke formation again as the missiles made contact with the monster. Ghidorah didn’t seem to notice the attack. He continued to fire his Gravity Beams at the buildings below him, ignoring the fighter jets.

The squadron flew in front of the dragon again, firing at his heads. As they retreated, they shot at his wings. Ghidorah snarled again as the missiles made contact with his faces. He turned around and fired his Gravity Beams at the jets, hitting three of them. He turned around again and continued his rampage.

More fighter jets shot at the monster. Four F/A-18 Hornets shot from the front and four F-35A Lightning IIs fired from the side. However, Ghidorah simply grunted as his wings, necks, and tails were bombarded by missiles. Suddenly, all eight jets fired at the dragon’s heads. He fired his Gravity Beams and flailed his necks around, destroying five of the eight. The remaining three fired their missiles once more before retreating. Ghidorah continued to fire at the buildings below him, decimating city blocks with ease. As he reached taller buildings, he finally stopped his flight. He landed looked around for about half a minute before releasing powerful Gravity Beams in every direction. He flapped his massive wings as he took flight again, the wind generated from his wings tearing buildings apart.

Tokyo, Japan; Minato Ward

“Our scientists are calling it Anguirus.” Dr. Victoria Smith said, “It appears to be related to an unknown species of omnivorous or carnivorous ankylosaur.”

“Where is he now?” Dr. Haruo Honda asked.

“We don’t know. After he fought Godzilla he went back underground before we could try to track him.” Dr. Smith answered. Suddenly, John Edwards burst into the office.

“Are you seeing this?” He shouted as he showed the two a video on his phone. The footage showed a three-headed dragon the color of brass decimating the city of San Diego, California.

“It’s even stronger than Gojira…” Dr. Honda whispered.

“What can we do about it?” Edwards asked.

“What if we led Godzilla and Rodan to it?” Dr. Smith said, “It’s obvious we can’t stop it, but we couldn’t stop Godzilla or Rodan either. Their combined forces might be enough to kill it.”

“There is also something else.” Dr. Honda added as he pulled an image up on his computer, “We call her Mosura.” The image showed a depiction of a giant moth. Under the Japanese characters was an English translation- Mothra.

“But where will we find it?” Edwards asked.

“If Gojira has awoken, it is likely Mosura has as well.” Dr. Honda answered.

SCI-FI KING25 - This was an extremely neat and compelling set of chapters! I very much like the character interactions you presented within your work - along with the slow buildup of anticipation! Excellent work! Thank you ever so much for taking the time to create this and share it with us! :)
