Assuming you actually wanted to see these movies made and done well, what writer/director/producer would you have preferred Fox brought on to handle the project?

Mine are:

Producer: Christopher Nolan

Writer:
           Initial Script - John Spaihts
1st round of revisions - Guillermo del toro
2nd round of revisions - Neil Marshall

Director: Danny Boyle

They tried to bring back Cameron a couple of times and his Terminator 2 sequel is one of the best sequels every made; in line with his Aliens.

I am on the fence with Blomkamp after scoring with District 9 and blowing it with Elysium and Chappie but he is coming out with a new alien invasion movie.

I think Jeff Nichols and Frank Darabont are capable directors.

That's the trailer.  His Alien moves like the one in District 9.

Duncan Jones directing ( moon and source code) David bowies son.

Someone like obannon maybe the arrival writer...

Ridley Scott producing :p. Although if he's firing on all cylinders he should direct!

I see where the lines divide here. Cameron should not and WILL NOT ever touch another Alien film. He ruined it the first time due to his arrogance.

Starlogger, I met Spike Lee in person and that guy is the definition of arrogance.  Many people that serve as directors or top people in production are super arrogant.

Difficult to say, but i would really like to see what Guillermo Del Toro or Peter Jackson could bring to the franchise. I don't think that Cameron would bring anything quite new to another Alien movie however i am pretty sure that he couldn't release a movie as rushed as Covenant even if he wished ! None of his movies, feel rushed !

Lets just leave it to Ridley for now, at least give him the chance to finish what he started.

Starlogger~ The only thing more inflated than James Camerons noggin' are the incomprehensible budgets he has to work with!!

I would say Del Toro but im no expert on that.

What i would really like?

An absolute Alien fan of the franchise to have some input.

I bet us on here, a lot of us, have spent more time on P and a:c, theorising, debate, etc.. than the guys who influence the story at Fox!!

a:c was close as well!!

i thought 1,2 or 3 more reveals and we would of walked out very happy. its fine margins.

RS makes beautiful movies.

i just dont think he realises how serious the fans are about the franchise, which, for what we have been given over the years from Fox I think they are lucky to have the fans it does.

We need the details, if not, this next film could be the last one the loyal fans watch or give a shit about, before switching to something that will reward our devotion.

Perhaps RS doesnt know the universe as well as we hoped.  But surely theres a devoted fan to guide him?

I agree that del toro would be good and also think Gore Verbinski could maybe pull off a great alien movie. He did great work with the ring and is awesome at creating a believable atmosphere. I do like what Cameron did and think he would put together a great film as well as Scott. I think AC wasn't as bad as people think. Yes it was rushed and an alien retread but it did set up a great big picture with David. Plus I think the rapid growth and birth of the Xenos and neomorphs was intentional. The Xeno in the film wasn't the classic one seen in the other movies. I think David is going to experiment more and this will produce a more lethal creature and it will take more time to gestate. It will have more of a biomechanical look and be smaller. The Xeno in AC was huge and I think he was in fact the protomorph. David also needs to create a queen which could end up being Daniels demise since Shaw was barren in Prometheus. Hopefully Scott gets to make Alien:awakening because I think he will be able to explain how those eggs got on the crashed ship Kane goes too and also explain the space jockey. David will create an egg laying queen Xenomorph who needs to spend more time in a host so it can develop the biomechanical aspects that the one in AC lacked (they cut the power) "aliens" and satisfy all the questions that need to be answered. It's also why David didn't kill Daniels and Tennessee when they were fighting his creation. He wanted to see if it could take them. Now he knows he needs to create a better, self sufficient killing machine and that's what will hopefully happen in the next movie.

Chad Ripley - Some good points.

I have to wonder, are the Morphs growing quicker because they are not yet bio-mech, like you say, OR do they need to grow quicker due to the action sequences in the this and next film?

I hope its your idea and we get some answers to these awkward questions?

@Lone.  That is what I thought about Lucas in regards to the prequels.  Yea, that last one was not that bad but it was already too late.  Ridley should have never been given this in the first place.  I was happy at first but now very disappointed with the decision.

I'd love to see any of the following directors attempt to make an alien film: Nicolas Winding Refn, Danny Boyle, Rian Johnson, Guillermo del Toro, Daniel Espinosa or last but least Frank Darabont.

That being said, Ridley sits nicely at the throne imo.

Prometheus is now a perfect film to me now when compared to Alien Covenant. I don't think it matters who writes the story/script. Because Ridley will just massacre when he hits the editing room. He shoots so much film on top of all the esoteric religious symbolism nonsense he polluted Covenant with it just turns into a witches brew of mush. I think they took Blade runner away from him cause he can't see the finer details like the captain not shooting David and following him to a dark basement to look into an egg. Nobody will put a governor on his throttle and I won't pay to see the next abomination full of stupid amateur"astronauts"

I'm not disappointed with Sir Ridley, but I would go, as possible directors, with Denis Villeneuve or Christopher Nolan - and his son, Jonathan, responsible for the script.

@CaptT - My feelings exactly.  Even great directors frak up and this is his massive mess up.

Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla, Rogue One) loves, I mean really LOVES monsters, and has a powerful visual style. He could nail a classic/retro look for the movie. Like Ridley, he would be very dependent on a good script; but it can work out. My other top choice would be Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later, Dredd reboot), the most consistently brilliant sci-fi writer/director working nowadays. BTW, his project Annihilation is getting a lot of praise from the original author of the book it is based on.

I could definitely get down with Garland. Ex Machina and 28 Days were superb. Still have yet to see the Judge Dredd reboot

Dredd is to me a similar case as the new Mad Max, a character I didn't have much interest to see again. But when talent and imagination are involved it makes the difference. Something old can seem brand new.
