AdminGodzillaMay-07-2014 11:55 AMTo the legend that birthed Godzilla and gave us the best films of the series, on top of some spectacular science fiction films, happy birthday.
He passed away in 1993. He would've been 103 today.

MemberBaragonMay-07-2014 6:10 PMLet's have a list of your favorite Honda films he directed. Of course, Gojira, but any others? I kinda appreciate his horror movie "Matango" (aka Attack of the Mushroom people), its a pretty underrated film.

AdminGodzillaMay-07-2014 10:32 PMThe Mysterians. Hands down. The movie's look, feel, designs and sets inspired so many future science fiction within and outside of Japan it might as well be credited for as much as Godzilla '54.
Plus it's a very colorful, very sleek, sci-fi actioner with just enough character blimishes to keep me giving a damn. 1960s toku as we remember it, super sentai, anime, and design elements from Star Trek, Lost in Space and even Star Wars wouldn't have been what they are without The Mysterians. Incredible, imaginative sci-fi. The late Fred Wilcox and Honda were clearly on the same page during this time period.
And of course in 1965 the ideas and designs from The Mysterians were flung together with Godzilla and, presto! We have one of the most beloved Showa era Godzilla films: Monster Zero.
